Bo Stern is a persuasive, sought-after speaker and writer. Her role as a teaching pastor at Westside Church in Bend, Oregon, gives her a platform to share her personal journey and deep insight into the heart of God. Her message of hope compels others to seek God in a more intimate way and she possesses a unique gift of taking complex theology and expressing it through simple, personal illustration.
Several years ago, Bo began studying all the battles in the Bible and came to believe that God uses battles—and not just peace or blessing—to accomplish His great purposes in us. She then developed a series of messages for conferences and retreats which were received with overwhelming enthusiasm. Because of this, she has talked to and prayed with hundreds of women who are facing life-changing, faith-shaking circumstances. Bo came face-to-face with a fierce and unexpected giant on the day that her husband was diagnosed with ALS—a terminal and terrible disease. From this battleground, she put these truths into practice day-by-day, thought-by-thought, faith-by-faith—and she chronicled the story on her blog The Difference of Day and in the book Beautiful Battlefields (NavPress, 2013). Bo also has authored When Holidays Hurt: Finding Hidden Hope Amid Pain and Loss (Thomas Nelson, 2014) and Ruthless: Knowing the God Who Fights for You (NavPress, 2014).
Bo was married to her late husband, Steve, for 28 years, and together they raised four amazing kids. She serves on the International Board of Directors for Kings Kids Village, a home for AIDS-affected orphans in Nairobi, Kenya and is also heavily involved in raising awareness and funding for research on ALS.
