Denette Jenkins Fretz, the daughter of a principal and an elementary teacher, began working with children when she was a teenager. She has dedicated her adult life to raising, writing for, and educating kids. Since graduating Summa Cum Laude from Oregon State University, Fretz has taught students between the ages of 5 and 13 in the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, and Oregon. Eighteen years as an elementary educator has afforded her opportunities to compose curriculum-related activities, plays, songs, grade level instructional guides, and daily parent communiqués. Her chosen vocation and a personal book collection allow her to be surrounded by the literature she loves...fictional picture books.
In 2002, Fretz's story Just the Way I See It was awarded third place in the juvenile fiction division of the Kay Snow Writing Contest. She has been part of a writer' group, attended story craft workshops and seminars, and is a member of Willamette Writers.
Fretz currently writes for two internet venues and is the author of two books in The Next Door Series, The Pirates Next Door (Zondervan, 2013), and Conrad and the Cowgirl Next Door (Zondervan, 2014). Her personal blog provides support for moms and details her decision to resign from full-time teaching to be a mom, writer, and substitute teacher.
Fretz currently resides in Medford, Oregon. She and her husband, Terry, have two children.
